
A climbing accident at Eldorado Canyon State Park left a 55-year-old man injured on Tuesday evening after a fall from the Wind Tower formation. The Boulder County Communication Center received a distress call at roughly 6:49 p.m. The climber, who was part of a duo, had fallen approximately 15 feet despite being secured with a rope and belayed at the time of the incident, the circumstances surrounding his fall remain unclear.
Boulder County Sheriff's Office reports that rescue efforts were swift, with the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, alongside Mountain View Fire Protection District units, reached the injured man in under twenty minutes. Despite the terrain being steep and loose, which can complicate any rescue operation, they successfully administered medical treatment and prepared the climber for evacuation.
The technical rescue, reportedly taking around an hour, concluded with the climber being evacuated via litter and subsequently transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical care. Details on the extent of his injuries have not been disclosed.
Multiple agencies coordinated to ensure the climber's safe rescue and treatment, including the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Mountain View Fire Protection District, along with the volunteer-based Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
