A 20-year-old man from Cobb County, Cooper Hamilton, was sentenced to a life term plus an additional 20 years after pleading guilty to 25 charges involving child exploitation and abuse. This conviction was disclosed today by District Attorney Sonya F. Allen's office.
The investigation into Hamilton began in February 2024 when a tip from the FBI was received, suggesting Hamilton had been allegedly producing and distributing illegal content with a minor through dark web channels. During the investigation spearheaded by Cobb County Police Detective Felker, it was unearthed that Hamilton had created over 100 videos showing repeated abuse, some dating back to as early as 2020. Besides the videos, investigators found Hamilton had also secretly taken and disseminated exploitative photographs of the child online.
"This case represents one of the most serious violations of trust and innocence that we see in the criminal justice system," stated District Attorney Sonya F. Allen. Allen went on to express gratitude toward the investigators and prosecutors who worked persistently to bring justice for the victim. Presiding over the case, Cobb County Superior Court Judge A. Gregory Poole highlighted the disturbing nature of the evidence and labeled Hamilton as a "predator who poses a significant danger to the community."
Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Raynor, alongside other members of the office and the Cobb County Police Department, were acknowledged by District Attorney Allen for their dedication in securing the conviction. Hamilton, who is now facing the severe penalties for his crimes, sees the full weight of justice brought down upon him, serving to underline the sobering reality of child exploitation offenses and the legal system's commitment to earnestly punish such heinous acts.
