A Cobb County man has been sentenced to life in prison, with an additional 20 years, after pleading guilty to charges of child sexual exploitation and aggravated child molestation. Cooper Hamilton, 20, was accused of sexually abusing a child and creating more than 100 videos of the abuse, sharing illegal material on dark web platforms, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Hamilton's malicious activities were first suspected following a February 2024 tip-off from the FBI to the Cobb County Police, which led to the discovery and seizure of both the footage and images that Hamilton had been secretly taken and distributed. According to information provided by Atlanta News First, most of the recorded abuse took place between 2020 and November 2023.
In response to the case, the Cobb County Superior Court Judge A. Gregory Poole labeled the evidence as “disturbing,” and branded Hamilton a “predator who poses a significant danger to the community,” as was highlighted by both FOX 5 Atlanta and Atlanta News First. District Attorney Sonya F. Allen resonated with these remarks, stating, "We are grateful to the investigators and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to secure justice for the victim," as she described the violation of trust in the criminal justice system as one of the most serious.
The plea agreement, resulting in a life sentence plus 20 years, reflects the severity of the crimes committed. "This case represents one of the most serious violations of trust and innocence that we see in the criminal justice system," District Attorney Allen told FOX 5 Atlanta. Hamilton’s sentencing conclusively brings to end an arduous process, and serves as a somber reminder of the persisting dangers posed to the most vulnerable in society.
