
A tragic accident on the intersection of Champion Avenue and Frebis Avenue claimed the life of a driver on Sunday. At approximately 2:35 PM, a Chevy Silverado Pickup truck heading north on Champion Avenue collided with a Lincoln MKC just as the road merged into a single lane at the intersection. The impact sent both vehicles crashing into parked cars on the street, according to a Columbus Division of Police press release.
Passing the intersection at the time of the incident, both the pickup truck's driver was taken to Grant Hospital in a stable condition and subsequently arrested on unrelated existing warrants. Michael Rooney, the driver of the Lincoln, was also transported to Grant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:02 PM. The police report confirmed this information.
The Columbus Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit has taken charge of the incident, thoroughly investigating the cause and circumstances leading up to the fatal collision. However, as of now, the outcomes of this investigation have not been disclosed to the public.
