In a recent update on a long-running murder case, District Attorney Bryant C. Dunaway announced that convicted murderer Lawrence Goss will continue to serve his sentence following a parole hearing yesterday. The hearing officer denied Goss's request for parole, citing the severity of his crime—the 1996 murder of Melanie "Jeannie" Brummitt Preston in Cumberland County, as per the Facebook post of Bryant C. Dunaway, District Attorney.
Goss was convicted of killing Preston with an impact hammer, and her body was discovered days later in the Catoosa Wildlife area. Nearly three decades later, with Melanie's parents no longer alive, her niece and nephew continue to attend the parole hearings alongside Dunaway, seeking justice.
Dunaway shared that the hearing officer recognized the seriousness of Goss's crime and recommended denying parole, offering some relief to those seeking justice. Dunaway emphasized that such violent acts have a lasting impact on families and communities.
Dunaway ended his announcement by asking for prayers for the Brummitt family.
