A Tennessee man from Covington has been arrested on charges of making terroristic threats against a courthouse and court clerk, authorities say. Aireiz Macklin, 32, was taken into custody without incident on South College Street in Covington, following a coordinated effort between the Covington Police Department (CPD) and Nashville law enforcement, as reported by WREG.
In a statement obtained by Local Memphis, CPD Chief Donna Turner emphasized the seriousness with which authorities treat these threats, saying, "If you choose to make these types of threats, we will respond swiftly." Covington police were first alerted to the situation on April 11, when Nashville Metro Police Department Detectives indicated that Macklin was allegedly directing threats towards the Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk and the Davidson County Courthouse.
Currently, Macklin is being held at the Tipton County Jail as he awaits extradition to Nashville. According to the Covington Police Department, the suspect has two active warrants from Davidson County for violation of an order of protection and theft of services under $1,000. Sources from the police department told FOX13 Memphis that additional charges are likely to follow, linked to the investigation into the threats.
The investigation into the case remains active. Covington Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the department's Criminal Investigations Division at 901-475-1261.
