Community engagement has taken on a furry twist in Coweta County, where local Animal Services launched an innovative "Doggie Day Out" program. As part of their new initiative, residents in the Coweta area can now give shelter dogs a much-needed respite by taking them on daylong adventures.
In a bid to improve the lives of dogs confined to the shelter, the program's premise is as straightforward as it is heartwarming. During the weekdays from Monday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Coweta citizens are presented with the opportunity to borrow a canine companion. The participants receive a backpack stocked with supplies for the duration of the outing, according to a recent announcement on the Coweta County website.
However, there are guidelines to ensure the well-being of the dogs and the community. The shelter specifies that anyone participating must be over 18 years old and maintain control of their four-legged friend. Dogs in the program can't be left unsupervised with children, and distance from other dogs is advised. In addition to safeguarding their own vehicle and home for the dog's stay, potential participants must sign a waiver prior to embarking on this animal escapade.
Following the day out, Coweta residents are encouraged to help the shelter better understand their temporary pet's character by filling out a "Doggie Report Card". As they capture memories of their shared time, they're also invited to share snapshots of their day on social media, tagging Coweta County Animal Services, which is bound to stir community interest and potentially lead to more adoptions. Interested individuals are directed to reach out to the shelter at 770-254-3735, or visit in person at 91 Selt Road in Newnan, GA for further details.
