The filing names Costco Wholesale Corporation as the project applicant and AEC, Inc. as the designer, signaling that the warehouse has officially moved from planning documents to active site work.
What Mountain Marketplace Will Bring
The 31-acre Mountain Marketplace project, led by Fuqua Development, is set to feature Costco as its anchor, along with fast-food tenants and a bank, according to Atlanta News First. On the residential side, Greystar has closed on land for a 248-unit apartment community called Flats at Mountain Marketplace, with construction slated to begin in mid-2026 and leasing expected to start in late 2027, per Greystar.
From Olympic Courts to Big-Box Anchor
The property previously housed the Stone Mountain Tennis Center, a 1996 Olympics venue that was demolished in 2018 after years of sitting empty. County leaders have spent recent years trying to turn the site into a commercial gateway. County budget documents show the Gwinnett County Board approved the sale in 2024 and indicate the transaction closed later, a shift that cleared the way for the current buildout, according to Gwinnett County.
