A spate of violent armed carjackings that terrorized District residents in late 2023 has culminated in a substantial prison sentence for Junious Plummer, 36, following his guilty plea on a firearm charge connection with these heinous crimes, as per a recent Department of Justice report.

U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. along with the FBI's Sean Ryan and Chief Pamela Smith from the Metropolitan Police have announced that Plummer, a District of Columbia man, received a sentencing of ten years in federal prison on January 21, after pleading guilty to brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, the spree spanned three different incidents, each involving threats of grievous harm and actual physical violence to victims in the process of seizing their vehicles; this series of aggressive thefts reflected a brazen disregard for the law and community safety, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.

In the first reported incident, court documents detail how on August 11, 2023, Plummer threatened two individuals with a handgun early in the morning, one of the victims was struck with the weapon when they attempted to resist, their blue Hyundai Elantra and personal belongings like a phone were forcibly taken. Following this, on October 18, 2023, Plummer accosted a Toyota Camry owner at a gas station demanding the car keys and, after hesitation from the owner, assaulted them with a silver revolver, leaving with the car and other possessions including an iPhone and headphones. The final known carjacking took place on December 18, where Plummer and an accomplice cornered a woman in her apartment's parking garage, intimidating her with a rifle-style firearm until she surrendered her Chrysler 300 - Plummer and his accomplice then used the woman's credit cards to make unauthorized purchases.

Federal authorities, including the FBI Washington Field Office Violent Crimes Task Force and the Metropolitan Police Department, were integral in piecing together the string of crimes leading to Plummer's apprehension; he was found in possession of a .357 firearm on October 30, 2023, a further testament to the ongoing armed criminal activity registration between the aforementioned carjackings, Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Tepfer led the charge with the assistance of Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kate MacLure Toth to secure the conviction that would put Plummer behind bars for a decade and also ensure three years of supervised release thereafter.
