As the sun beats down on the concrete expanse of Dallas, The City of Dallas prepares to shed light not on the pavement but on the burning question of how urban design impacts our everyday lives. The Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability (OEQS) has taken a deep dive into the city's Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, and they're ready to show us what they've found. Tomorrow, city officials will unveil the Heat Island Study Phase II findings. This investigation seriously affects how we understand and combat the lethal heat afflicts our neighborhoods.
The press conference, scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Dallas City Hall, promises to bring this hot topic into sharper focus. According to an announcement by the City of Dallas, M. Elizabeth (Liz) Cedillo-Pereira, the Assistant City Manager, along with City Council Member Kathy Stewart and Paul White, II, Interim Director for OEQS, will be there to discuss the results of the study that took place last summer. Extreme heat, after all, is not an abstraction in Dallas.
Check back for detailed coverage following the press conference, where we'll discuss the study findings and what they could mean for Dallas's future.
