In a harrowing incident in Daytona Beach, a 1-year-old child tragically lost his life after chasing a family dog into oncoming traffic. The Daytona Beach Police Department reported to the scene of the accident at North Halifax Avenue around 8:21 p.m. on Wednesday, according to WESH.

The toddler, following a dog that had gotten loose, ventured onto the road where he was initially struck by a 2003 Honda CR-V and subsequently by a 2012 Chevy Silverado, in an unfortunate string of events that unfolded with devastating rapidity. The child was inflicted with severe injuries and despite being rushed to Halifax Hospital, he succumbed about an hour later, as confirmed by Bill Rhodes, the director of operations at the Daytona Beach Police Department, in a statement reported by FOX 35 Orlando. The officials involved have stated that there appears to be no indication of excessive speed by any of the vehicles.

WFTV reported that the drivers of both vehicles, along with the child's parents, have been cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. Currently, no charges have been filed in the incident.
