A grim discovery shook the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn when a dead fetus was found on a local street. According to ABC7NY, the fetus, believed to be about four months old, was located in front of an apartment building on Union Street on Thursday evening.
Police have stated that the fetus was not viable, adding a layer of tragedy to an already somber situation. The disturbing find was made by a 48-year-old passerby, who spotted the remains near Schenectady Avenue around 5:30 p.m. and promptly contacted emergency services, as reported by the New York Post.
The emergency medical workers who responded to the scene pronounced the fetus deceased; the case now rests with the city's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. The ongoing investigation has yet to uncover how long the body had been there before it was discovered or answer the uneasy question of how the fetus ended up abandoned on the street.
