A fire that began late Monday night at the Accura Care Massage and Spa located in a Garden City strip mall has led to serious charges against a Dearborn man, as two employees of the business were injured and hospitalized. According to CBS News Detroit, the fire at the establishment on Middlebelt Road required one individual to self-evacuate, while another needed to be rescued by fire personnel.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is facing an array of eight felony charges which include assault with intent to murder, arson, unlawful imprisonment, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm, this comes from an update by audacy detailing the charges based on police statements, the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday and is due for an arraignment; meanwhile, the two affected female employees are stable but remain in the hospital receiving care for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
Aside from the physical harm incurred, the incident has impacted neighboring businesses with smoke damage, as noted by Lakisha Gardenhigher, manager of the nearby Golden Beauty Hair Salon, who told CBS News Detroit about the effort to manage the aftermath including working fans overtime and cleaning up, even as her business remained open with precautions to combat the lingering smell of smoke.
The motive behind the arson has yet to be fully uncovered, though the investigation continues as Garden City Police sift through the burnt remains for evidence according to FOX 2 Detroit, Lt. Micah Hull from the Garden City Police Department acknowledged the ongoing investigation and the preparation of necessary documents for the Wayne County prosecutor, with a decision regarding additional charges, including possibly attempted murder is expected soon.
