They're rolling out the red carpet in Dearborn, but not for Hollywood's elite. It's for local artists and cultural enthusiasts as the city kicks off its annual April Arts Month celebration. With a series of mostly free, family-friendly events lined up, there's something for everyone looking to soak in some creativity, courtesy of the Dearborn Recreation Commission and the Cultural Arts Committee, bolstered by support from entities such as the Dearborn Community Fund.
Residents can look forward to the “Arty Party” on April 12, when they're invited to step into the artists’ world at Artspace Studios and Fishnet Art Studios—no cover charge. This gathering promises to be an interactive shindig, providing a platform for visitors to watch artists in the wild create right before their eyes. According to details posted by the City of Dearborn, attendees will also be treated to an exhibit and various musical performances.
Fast-forward to April 28, and the Mayor’s Arts Awards will grab the spotlight. Studio A at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center is set to host this testament to local achievement with zero admission fees because art should never be behind a paywall, right? It's a night pegged to celebrate the talents that keep Dearborn's cultural heartbeat strong, complete with light entertainment and a post-ceremony reception to toast the honorees.
Visitors can enjoy free entry at six galleries throughout the month, including the Padzieski Gallery, UM-Dearborn Stamelos Gallery, and the Arab American National Museum. Dearborn is all about breaking the routine with these exciting exhibits. Plus, on April 11, the Dearborn Symphony will perform music by Henry Mancini, and on April 26, the National Arab Orchestra will present "Echoes from the East." For tickets, check the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center’s website.
