Scheduled to open its doors on May 9, this lounge and bar offers patrons the chance to enjoy a drink while observing the intricate craft of glassblowing. Situated at the Academy's 25331 Trowbridge Road location, the 14,000-square-foot facility includes a 6,500 square foot hot shop where visitors can watch artists at work.
As reported by Click on Detroit, Glass Academy owner Jacob Nordin aims to "give glass enthusiasts and newcomers a comfortable environment to watch the exciting process of glassblowing." The Michigan Room promises an immersive experience into the world of glass, a unique feature that sets it apart from other bars. Alongside showcasing the glassblowing process, as Click on Detroit details, the venue will serve beverages in custom, hand-blown glasses tailored to each drink, all of which are available for purchase.
The Detroit News highlights the local Michigan theme of The Michigan Room, which features beer, wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. Furnishings include upcycled tables, chairs, and vintage lamps, and the décor is accentuated with Michigan-sourced black walnut. The Detroit News also mentions that the space will be open for private events, accommodating groups of 30 to 125 people.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, The Michigan Room will offer a rotating cocktail selection and beverages from local producers such as Detroit's Casamara Club Sodas and Dearborn Brewing. Public hours for The Michigan Room are Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Patrons can expect activities like glass-making and glass-blowing demonstrations, with the latter taking place on Thursdays.
