Chocolates, oompa loompas, and Easter eggs are taking over Detroit's Lasky Recreation Center as the city's annual Easter Fun Fest draws inspiration from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" for its 40th-anniversary celebration. The event is shaping up to be a delightfully themed extravaganza, complete with carnival rides and an Easter egg hunt. According to the City of Detroit website, the family-friendly festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lasky Recreation Center located at 13200 Fenelon St. Detroit, MI 48212.
Among the traditional giveaways, this year's Easter Fun Fest is gifting 200 bikes and ensuring that at least 500 Easter baskets find their way into the hands of excited youngsters, festive food trucks will bring Willy Wonka-themed treats, and there's going to be Oompa Loompa sack races along with Wacky Wonka’s 2-legged races amongst other new additions meant to amplify the fun. City of Detroit General Services Department Director Crystal Perkins expressed her enthusiasm saying, "We know Detroit families look forward to this free celebration year after year and we’re committed to making each year better than the last," in a statement that hopes residents, both old and new, will create memories this Easter Weekend.
For the convenience of festival-goers, public parking will be available along with complimentary shuttle service on a continuous loop. Some of the designated parking locations include Jayne Field off Charles St. and Luce St., as well as the Detroit Library Knapp Branch at 13330 Conant St. Ensuring accessibility and ease of attendance, as reported by the City of Detroit.
With the additional attractions, such as pony rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, a circus, along with dry vendors, and valuable resources that are annual staples of the festival, Easter Fun Fest is becoming more indulgent, it seems, and children and parents alike are encouraged to dive into the whimsical world of Wonka while celebrating Easter traditions.
