Detroit is hosting its Detroit Demolition Week, a series of events focused on increasing public understanding of the city’s demolition efforts and their role in neighborhood revitalization. Starting on April 7, residents will have the opportunity to engage with city officials, explore career opportunities, and observe live demolitions. The week-long event, as outlined by the City of Detroit, is designed to promote transparency and community involvement.
Director Tim Palazzolo of the Construction & Demolition Department expressed his enthusiasm about the event, stating, "Demolition is more than just tearing down buildings—it’s about rebuilding communities and restoring hope,” as reported by the City of Detroit. The week starts with Donuts & Demo, offering attendees the chance to watch a building demolition while enjoying coffee, donuts, and speaking with the demolition teams.
After the hands-on demo experience, the week continues on April 8 with 'Building Dreams: Career Talks with Detroit’s Youth,' an event at a local school aimed at introducing students to career opportunities in skilled trades. The initiative focuses on encouraging investment in future generations and providing potential pathways for economic development in the community.
The main event, a Career & Resource Fair, will be held on April 9 at the Northwest Activities Center, offering Detroit residents a chance to explore job opportunities in construction and skilled trades. On April 10, a community forum will provide insights into the city's demolition process and offer residents an opportunity to contribute their input. The week will conclude on April 11 with the Cruisin’ With Counts initiative, which encourages community members to patrol and assist in improving neighborhood conditions.
These interactive events are part of Detroit's ongoing efforts to engage residents in the city's redevelopment. For more information about the schedule, updates, and locations, residents can check Detroit’s social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram, for announcements.
