A 22-year-old man escaped from Detroit police custody during transport while handcuffed. He had been detained for a weapons offense but was quickly located by the Police Aviation Unit and recaptured, facing new charges, according to CBS News Detroit.

A young man escaped from custody after being checked medically at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He had been involved in an altercation with police at the Detroit Detention Center. After running through streets and parking lots near the 4200 block of St. Antoine Street, he was recaptured outside apartments between Canfield and E. Warren Ave. The escape led to additional charges, including escaping custody and assaulting officers. More than a dozen officers were involved in his recapture, as reported by Audacy

A police pursuit in the neighborhood caused alarm among residents. Witness Tamyra Landers said, “I looked out and (saw) my neighbors out here - looked at the whole squad (like) what’s wrong? An officer said 'Ma’am get down, go back in the house - everybody might be in danger.’” Another witness, Tiffanee Gordon, stated, “As I came out I saw a young man running with his hands - I just saw the cops coming from everywhere so it was crazy,” as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit. No injuries were reported, and police acknowledged the residents' cooperation. The suspect's identity was not revealed, but additional charges for fleeing law enforcement and assaulting officers during a previous arrest are pending.
