A tragic incident unfolded on Detroit's west side after a traffic stop turned into a deadly chase involving a stolen vehicle. According to CBS News Detroit, Deputy Chief Jacqueline Pritchett stated that the pursuit began around 8 p.m. on Friday, ending in a violent collision at Murray Hill Street and Puritan Avenue. The events led to the death of a 60-year-old man after the suspect, fleeing in the stolen car, caused a two-vehicle crash.

The Detroit News reported that the incident started when officers from the 12th Precinct attempted to conduct traffic stop. As they were exiting their vehicle, the suspect sped away, prompting officers to engage in pursuit. "Seconds later," Deputy Chief Pritchett said, "they saw smoke and two vehicles with heavy damage."

Authorities quickly apprehended the suspect, a man in his 20s, who had attempted to flee on foot. He was captured several houses away from the scene of the crash. It was later revealed by The Detroit News that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen out of Redford, Michigan. Moreover, he was wanted for aggravated assault in Eastpointe.

The victim, a man in his 60s, has not been identified yet as officials are still notifying his family. Deputy Chief Pritchett said he was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries after the crash. The suspect, whose name hasn't been released, is in stable condition at a local hospital. Detroit police say the investigation is still ongoing, as per ClickOnDetroit.
