Tragedy struck early on a Sunday morning in Las Vegas as two men were fatally shot following a party. The incident occurred on April 13 just after 1:30 a.m. in the East Owens Avenue area, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). Officers arrived at the scene to find two male victims with gunshot wounds, both of whom were pronounced dead by responding medical teams. The LVMPD has since launched a homicide investigation into the case.
In what appears to be a sudden escalation of conflict, 24-year-old Julio Bautista-Martinez is accused of pulling a gun during an argument and opening fire, fatally injuring the two victims. The altercation was believed to have begun as a verbal dispute before tragically turning violent. Bautista-Martinez allegedly then fled the scene but was later apprehended and is now facing two counts of Open Murder, as conveyed in a statement obtained by the LVMPD. Details surrounding the altercation and motive are still to be fully uncovered by authorities.
The identities of the deceased, along with the specific causes and manners of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner after proper notifications are made to the next of kin. As this story unfolds, the LVMPD Homicide Section is appealing to the public for any information related to the shooting that might assist in piecing together the events leading to the deaths of the two men.
Julio Bautista-Martinez, now held at the Clark County Detention Center, has yet to make a public statement regarding the allegations. In the interim, the LVMPD has urged anyone with information to come forward to possibly help to eventually provide closure to a night that left two families mourning and a community grappling with the consequences of gun violence. Tipsters can contact the LVMPD directly or choose to remain anonymous by reaching out to Crime Stoppers, according to the details provided by LVMPD in their news release.
