
The Austin Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after two men were fatally shot in East Austin late Sunday night, as per CBS Austin. Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex at the intersection of E 51st Street and Aldrich Street following multiple reports of gunfire shortly before 9:30 PM.
Upon arrival, authorities found two individuals with life-threatening injuries and despite the efforts by first responders to administer aid, both men, in their twenties, were confirmed dead at the scene, the incident marks Austin's 18th and 19th homicides for the year, and the police believe there is no current threat to the public, although details on the perpetrator or the circumstances that led to the shooting are yet to be disclosed.
A similar report by FOX 7 Austin identified the location of the crime as the 2600 block of Aldrich Street, near Bartholomew District Park, where both victims, described as Black males believed to be in their twenties, were pronounced deceased shortly before 10 PM, continuing the police department's statement that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
