Authorities from Nevada State Police are currently tackling the aftermath of a lethal collision on Interstate 15, where, unfortunately, a driver has perished in the wake of a wrong-way crash. The incident took place early Monday morning, roughly 25 miles north of Las Vegas, an area bordered by the city’s thrumming heart and the quietude of Moapa.
The crash, reported by FOX5 Vegas, occurred when a minivan, adrift on its northbound journey in the southbound lanes near mile marker 79, collided with a semi truck just after 1:40 a.m. The aftermath was grim, with the vehicles succumbing to flames. The sole occupant of the minivan was declared dead at the scene, while the semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
As investigations unfold, and as reported by News 3 LV, traffic flow on the southbound lanes of I-15 remains disrupted, with a closure in effect at mile marker 79. Fire and rescue operations are active on site, contributing to the delay. The lanes are expected to partially reopen, accommodating one southbound travel lane, specifically retreating to the far right (west) once the current emergency response is concluded.
Details about the cause of the collision are still unclear, and it’s not yet known if impairment was involved. Law enforcement is investigating what led to the minivan driving the wrong way. The community is waiting for updates as the investigation continues.
