
Last night's downtown San Rafael was disrupted when a DUI crash caused significant damage at a major intersection. The incident, which occurred after 8:00 PM at Second Street and B Street, involved a pickup truck that veered onto the sidewalk, collided with a streetlight, multiple trees, and a traffic signal pole, and destroyed a traffic signal control box.
The driver, who attempted to flee, was apprehended by officers and booked into the Marin County Jail for driving under the influence, according to the San Rafael Police Department.

The intersection now operates with a flashing red light due to the extensive damage, requiring drivers to stop and proceed cautiously, much like at a stop sign. Traffic disruptions are expected, and police are advising commuters to anticipate delays. San Rafael Public Works crews, along with their contractor, are working to repair the signal lights.
