East Pittsburgh experienced a close-call incident over the weekend as gunfire erupted in a residential neighborhood. George Murphy, 40, has been charged in connection with a shooting that took place last Saturday night, reported by WPXI. According to Allegheny County Police, Murphy faces charges that include aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm, and recklessly endangering another person.
Responding to a 911 call around 7:44 pm, emergency services found Murphy with a gunshot wound to his shoulder on the 100 block of Prospect Drive. Dispatched to the hospital in stable condition, the caller informed the officers that Murphy had been shot after firing at a group of people on a porch, according to police. Despite the exchange of gunfire, no other injuries were reported during the incident. Another man returned fire, hitting Murphy as he attempted to leave the scene, as detailed by WTAE.
The altercation reportedly occurred within the Prospect Terrace Housing complex on the 70 block of Prospect Drive. Owners of a residence in the area told police that Murphy had approached and began to shoot at them while they were on their porch. Surveillance video obtained from housing authority cameras supported their claim, capturing Murphy approaching the porch, raising his arm with a gun, and firing shots in the direction of the residents.
Police found that Murphy had outstanding warrants from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, rendering him a fugitive from justice and prohibiting him from firearm possession.
