In a recent message to El Paso ISD, Superintendent Diana Sayavedra shared her experiences and the district's initiatives, ranging from leadership development to recognitions and community events. During a trip to Austin with district leaders, Sayavedra attended a session with the Holdsworth Center, underscoring its role in fostering a pipeline of strong, visionary school leaders. "From campus principals to instructional coaches and cabinet members, our team is engaged in building a pipeline of leadership that ensures every student benefits from a school culture rooted in excellence, equity, and opportunity," said Sayavedra, as per El Paso ISD.
Adding to the district's exposure, Sayavedra also participated in a panel with El Paso-area superintendents on KTEP radio, discussing challenges and opportunities for the local public schools. The interview aimed at shedding light on the collaborative efforts to innovate educational practices for the students and families, scheduled to air on April 12 and 19.
El Paso ISD also took time to celebrate National Assistant Principals Week, recognizing the dedication of these educators to their schools. Sayavedra highlighted their crucial role in fostering a conducive learning environment and their contributions to the district's Strategic Blueprint. She expressed her gratitude by saying, "These individuals are instrumental in guiding school operations, supporting teachers, and building positive school environments where students can thrive. They lead with heart, courage, and purpose—often behind the scenes—and we are deeply grateful for their service and leadership," as obtained by El Paso ISD.
The Superintendent extended an invitation to the community to honor military children for the Month of the Military Child on April 15, which will feature El Paso ISD's "Purple Up" Day. In the statement from Sayavedra, she explains the significance of the day: "Students and staff are encouraged to wear purple as a show of support for the resilience and strength of our military-connected families," as noted by El Paso ISD. She further invites the community to participate and express their support.
El Paso ISD is not just celebrating leadership and service but also nurturing the creativity of its students. The 17th Annual El Paso ISD Student Digital Film Festival, to be held at the Lee Capshaw Fine Arts Center at Coronado High School, showcases original films created by students. Providing a platform for young filmmakers, the event is entirely student-led for the first time, emphasizing student involvement and expression through the arts.
Moving to the domain of competitive tech, the Franklin High School robotics team caught attention with their performance, now looking forward to competing at an international level. "The team is now preparing to compete at the international level in May, representing El Paso ISD among the best robotics teams in the world," Sayavedra noted, according to El Paso ISD, indicating the district's pride and support.
Rounding out the announcements, El Paso ISD will transition to summer hours starting June 9, with district offices operating a 10-hour workday schedule from Monday to Thursday. This move is intended to better serve the community during the summer months.
