A senior resident was rescued from a burning building in Waltham, Massachusetts, after a four-alarm fire engulfed a residence on High Street, officials say a dozen other inhabitants are now homeless as the blaze forced them out of their homes. According to WCVB, the fire broke out just after noon yesterday and first responders initially struggled to reach the 77-year-old man who was trapped on the third floor; he was ultimately saved by Waltham fire crews who used a ladder to bring him down to safety.
The incident which unfolded at 78 High St, attracted multiple fire departments from the surrounding cities and towns, and saw Waltham police officers, who were flagged down in the vicinity, managing to rescue three other residents from lower floors before the smoke became too overwhelming, this detail was confirmed by footage captured by SKY7-HD showing the heavy smoke as reported by WHDH. The elderly man was transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital for evaluation, and there has been no word on his current state.
The American Red Cross has stepped in to aid the approximately 10 to 15 displaced individuals in the aftermath of the fire. Both police and fire department officials are working in tandem with the state fire marshal's office to investigate the origins of the blaze that has pulled away these residents from the fabric of their daily lives and sense of security in their homes.
