After sustaining storm damage from Hurricane Helene, the Elizabethton Driver Services Center, located at 1741 Hwy 19E Bypass, is slated to reopen on April 14. The center, essential to the community for various licensing and identification services, had been temporarily replaced by a mobile unit inside the nearby Elizabethton Municipal Building at 136 S Sycamore Street until yesterday, as per the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

Upon reopening, the Driver Services Center will return to its standard operating schedule, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday, and all prior appointments that were made for the mobile unit are to be honored at the permanent center location according to information from a state department release. Area residents can once again utilize this location, bypassing the interim solution the state offers.

The renovated facility boasts a series of updates, including modern furniture, new workstations, a fresh coat of paint, updated flooring throughout, and advanced credentialing equipment, improvements likely to streamline the process for visitors. Additional features introduced are new self-service kiosks—designed for efficiency, these kiosks offer numerous options for motorists looking to renew or replace their Driver's License or ID Card, change an address, update emergency contact information, advance a Teen/Graduated Driver's License, pay reinstatement fees, or request a license reissue after reinstatement requirements are met.

Moreover, these kiosks, as part of the updated array of services and amenities, are also equipped to take photos and accept various forms of payment, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and traditional credit or debit cards. The state department stressed the accessibility of these new kiosks for ease of transactions within the community. Patrons of the Elizabethton Driver Services Center can expect a more streamlined and technologically savvy experience upon their return to the newly refurbished building.
