Hawaii will experience a mix of weather this week. Breezy trade winds will continue through the weekend, and parts of the state will see increased shower activity through on Thursday. According to the National Weather Service, "Moisture from a remnant front and an upper disturbance in the area will maintain periods of enhanced shower activity for portions of the state through Thursday." A return to typical trade wind conditions is expected beginning on Friday.

Overnight, windward areas of the Big Island received up to 0.75 inches of rain, as reported by the National Weather Service. The rain came from a stalled front over the area and is expected to continue through the morning before easing. Elsewhere, only a few windward showers are expected due to more stable conditions. A high-pressure system to the north is strengthening, which will push the moisture westward over the smaller islands. This may lead to increased rainfall through the end of the week.

Moderate to breezy northeasterly to easterly trade winds are expected to affect the islands, bringing a cloud band that may result in enhanced showers and MVFR conditions on the northeast, east, and southeast slopes of the Big Island. AIRMET Sierra for mountain obscuration is in effect this morning and is expected to diminish later. High pressure north of the islands will shift northeast by the weekend, maintaining moderate to strong trade winds. The current north swell will decrease through the day, with a north to northeast swell bringing near head-high surf through on Thursday. "East-facing shore chop will become more rough as upstream trades slightly pick up the next couple of days," as stated by the National Weather Service. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6 PM HST Thursday for several surrounding waters, including Kauai Northwest and Windward Waters.
