The weekend proved to be mixed for the El Paso Community College (EPCC) sports teams, with baseball splitting their games while softball took a stronger hold on their season. According to EPCC News, the Tejanos baseball team ended up going head-to-head against Howard College splitting the series, while the Tejanas softballs' winning Saturday sweep bolstered their season records. The Tejanos secured both games on Friday with strong leads but experienced a setback on Saturday with two close losses against Howard College.
Detailing the scoreboard, the EPCC baseball team triumphed 16-5 in the famed five innings of Friday morning's game and scraped through with a 9-8 win in the afternoon. On the flip side, Saturday turned the odds, as Howard College responded with a tight 3-2 win and a 5-1 victory over the Tejanos. The baseball team, now holding a 28-12 overall and a 10-10 conference record, has its eyes set on the upcoming bout against Odessa College, which boasts a 24-9, 16-2 record, for what promises to be a critical conference clash.
In contrast, the Tejanas softball team fashioned a decisive performance by overcoming their opposition, Clarendon College, in both Saturday games. The scores, which read 5-4 and the commanding 17-4, marked an improvement after a split result from Friday’s faceoff. The Tejanas showcased their prowess initially, winning 13-0 in five innings, but then slipped in the following game, landing a 10-9 loss after eight innings. This resilient team now holds a 15-13 season record and an 8-4 record in conference play, as they prepare to take on Western Texas College in Snyder, the coming weekend.
While the baseball team is gearing up to host the Wranglers at noon on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12 at Eisenga Field, the softball team is scheduled to travel for their engagement with Western Texas College also on April 11 and 12. Both EPCC teams are approaching pivotal points of the season, where each game and each play can immensely influence their standings and morale as they edge closer to the culmination of their respective seasons.
