The City of Escondido's official statement detailed the first responders encountering a "working fire" consuming a two-story house, with flames voraciously spreading into the attic, challenging the very integrity of the structure.
Although firefighters initially engaged the fire internally, they were forced to retreat from the building, the insides twisted by heat and smoke, and the threat of collapse. They had to adopt a defensive approach to combat the blaze from the outside, as per the Escondido Fire Department's Instagram post. It demanded nearly an hour of concerted effort by 20 firefighters to contain the unforgiving flames.
