The Eugene office of the Oregon DMV, located at 499 Valley River Center, is slated for a temporary shutdown on April 18 to conduct necessary facility repairs. The office is expected to reopen to the public on April 21, as reported by the Oregon Department of Transportation. During this brief intermission, DMV staff from the Eugene office will be stationed at nearby offices to aid redirected customers.
For those requiring services during the closure, the Springfield DMV at 204 N 30th St. will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In a rare occurrence, the Junction City DMV at 235 W 4th Ave., which is usually closed on Fridays, will also open its doors on April 18 from the same hours, but exclusively for REAL ID appointments that have been scheduled online. All other transactions are to be diverted to alternate locations. Driving tests originally planned for April 18 in Eugene will be administered in Junction City instead.
Alternative services, such as renewing vehicle registration, can be conveniently completed at the DMV Express Kiosk in the Fred Meyer on 3333 W 11th Ave. in Eugene, or through the online platform DMV2U, which offers over 20 different services. Upon its reopening on April 21, the Eugene DMV office hours will maintain their regular schedule, available for appointments or standby customers, as outlined by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
With the impending May 7 federal REAL ID deadline looming, DMVs across the state are experiencing an upswing in patronage. Expect lengthier than normal lines and wait times at many offices. At busier offices, once a ticket is issued, individuals may register their cell phone numbers to receive text notifications. This allows them the flexibility to leave and return closer to the time their number is called. It is important to note that receiving a REAL ID card by mail can take up to three weeks, so planning is crucial, particularly for those intending to board an airplane on May 7 or shortly thereafter without another form of federally accepted identification.
According to guidance from the Oregon Department of Transportation, individuals over the age of 18 who intend to fly domestically after May 7 will need a REAL ID, unless they have a valid passport or another federally accepted form of identification. For those who do not have immediate travel plans, it may be more practical to delay obtaining a REAL ID until it is time to renew their current credentials.
