In an unsettling act of violence at a Brunswick Dollar General store, a woman was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend while she worked in the morning yesterday. According to a report from WKYC, the Brunswick police received a call at around 8:32 a.m., prompting a swift response to the crime scene.
Brunswick and Brunswick Hills police arrived at the 1733 Pearl Road location and attended to the victim, who sustained injuries from the attack. As per a FOX8 news release, the suspect, 55-year-old Arthur Velasquez, was immediately recognized as the assailant, in part due to a set of broadcasts describing him and his vehicle. In a twist during the manhunt, Velasquez contacted the police himself, arranging his surrender.
The victim, whose identity remains unrevealed to protect her privacy, was transported to a nearby hospital. Information sourced from Cleveland19 indicates that she was attacked while performing her duties as an employee of the store, pointing to a potentially premeditated assault, which took place internally at the Dollar General storefront.
Velasquez, who suffered injuries during the stabbing, was temporarily admitted to the hospital before being incarcerated at the Medina County Jail. Injured while being taken into custody without incident by officers, his arrest occurred at the location he had provided. He awaits arraignment on a first-degree felony charge of attempted murder, set for today, as documented by court records in a statement obtained by FOX8.
