A Fairfax County School Board member is facing a lawsuit for allegedly embezzling $175,000 from a flight school, spending it on personal extravagances and political campaign expenses. Kyle McDaniel, who holds a key financial position within one of the nation's largest school districts, is accused of misusing funds from Blue Label Aviation, where he was secretary and treasurer. The lawsuit claims McDaniel used the company's resources for his gain, including charges at strip clubs and for his school board campaign, according to FOX 5 DC.
The lawsuit, which was filed last month, details that McDaniel allegedly made improper charges totaling $120,000 which he later partially repaid after being confronted by Blue Label's CEO Timothy Fischer, confessing to the wrongdoing and agreeing to a $50,000 restitution, The Daily Wire reported, however the accusations did not end there, Fischer later realized that not only had McDaniel not stopped siphoning the company's funds but he had also doubled down on his illegal activities, racking up an additional $160,000 in charges on personal luxuries such as vacations, meals, and further visits to strip clubs, according to the initial allegations made public.
The financial controversy took a new turn when it surfaced that McDaniel, after the initial confrontation, continued to leverage the power of his position to indulge in extravagant expenses under the guise of business costs. Even after a chance to resign in exchange for giving up his shares and credit cards was offered, more unauthorized charges reportedly came to light, compelling the company to cut ties with him, as Fox News outlines.
Now facing a lawsuit seeking reimbursement of the embezzled funds and punitive damages totaling $350,000, McDaniel has been instructed to relinquish his company-issued credit cards and disassociate from company bank accounts. McDaniel had not only confessed to the misdirection of funds but continued his questionable practices even after the initial discovery, The lawsuit states an ongoing pattern of misappropriation, which casts a shadow over his stewardship of the school district's significant budget.
