Sheriff Alex Lape of the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office recently announced a significant conviction in a local case of sexual abuse involving a minor. The perpetrator, 23-year-old Kurt M. Karns, was found guilty on multiple counts of gross sexual imposition. According to a social media post from the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, an in-depth investigation, which began last year, led to Karns' arrest for inappropriate sexual conduct with a juvenile under the age of 13.
The case, which arose from incidents violating Ohio Revised Code 2907.05(A)(4), was diligently investigated by local law enforcement. Karns was initially charged with three counts, all of which were third-degree felonies. "This sentencing reflects our office's commitment to seeking justice for victims of sexual abuse," Sheriff Lape stated in the release, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office. The Fairfield County Court of Common Pleas saw Judge David Trimmer sentence Karns to 16 years of imprisonment, as well as classify him as a Tier II Sex Offender, which mandates registration every 180 days for 25 years.
