A family in Oakland County was struck by tragedy early Tuesday morning when a fire demolished their home on Southport Drive in Rose Township, and resulted in the death of their pets. The blaze, which prompted an emergency response around 1:09 a.m., was met with firefighters finding the single-family dwelling already consumed by flames, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
Despite the rapid engulfment of their home all residents were able to evacuate without injury, unfortunately, the family’s pets were not as fortunate and were lost to the fire, according to the abc12 article. Fire crews were able to intervene before the fire could inflict further devastation on an adjacent garage.
Fire Chief Matt Weil expressed his condolences noting, "Our hearts go out to the family for the loss of their beloved pets and home," in statements made to abc12.
Firefighters were on site for an extended period, ensuring all hot spots were properly extinguished and that there was no further risk to the surrounding area, WNEM reports. The cause of the fire is now the subject of an investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Fire Investigation Unit, with assistance from the North Oakland County Fire Authority.
