In the early hours this morning, a tragic event unfolded on Irvine Center Drive, as a dark-colored Chevy SUV crashed into a light pole. The outcome proved fatal for the driver, an individual identified as Thomas Joseph Kaczan, according to the Irvine Police Department.
The incident, which occurred at around 12:32 a.m., initially came to light through a call from a passerby. The Orange County Fire Authority and IPD officers were prompt in their response, but despite their efforts to provide immediate aid, the sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, as conveyed in the Irvine PD's social media post.
Currently, the circumstances leading up to the collision remain a subject for investigation. The Irvine Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) has taken the lead on this front, delving into the evidence to piece together the timeline and cause of the event.
