
On Sunday, a tragic sequence of events unfolded on I-71, resulting in the death of an unidentified adult. According to a press release by the Columbus Division of Police, the accident occurred at approximately 3:20 a.m. when the individual's car spun out, striking the median wall and becoming disabled.
Following the initial crash, the adult attempted to walk on I-71 northbound in the number 1 lane and was struck by an unknown vehicle. The vehicle involved did not stop and promptly left the crash scene. While lying on the roadway, the individual was hit by a second unknown vehicle, which also chose not to stop and fled. Columbus Fire Engine #16 arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased at 3:33 a.m.
The Columbus Police's Accident Investigation Unit has since been rigorously working on the case, seeking information that could lead to identifying the drivers involved in the hit-and-run. Their public appeal encourages "Any person with knowledge of the involved vehicle or driver is encouraged to contact the Accident Investigation Unit at (614) 645-4767." According to the Columbus Division of Police, Information can be relayed to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-8477 for those wishing to remain anonymous.
