
Foothills Community School in Marion, North Carolina, has been awarded the 2025 NLGA Lt. Governors STEM Scholarship Program, receiving $1,000 to support its STEM education efforts. The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt on her official website, she expressed excitement about the school’s achievement and its potential to inspire future innovation.
According to the announcement, the scholarship will provide resources for new STEM tools, including Vex Robots, to enhance coding and engineering programs for middle school students. The school also operates a mobile STEM lab that visits elementary schools to promote STEM education through student-led activities.
The program, supported by ACT, aims to strengthen STEM education, which is seen as essential for preparing students for the future workforce. Over 125 applications from 32 states and territories were received, with Foothills Community School being one of twelve schools selected to receive the award.
