Guillermo Cadir Lopez-Pineda, a former Metairie resident, has been convicted on multiple counts related to child pornography, as reported Tuesday. The Jefferson Parish jury found him guilty of four counts of distributing and one count of possessing with the intent to distribute pornography involving children under the age of 13. This wretched chapter of justice began with a tip off, leading ensuing events to unfold almost as inevitably as night follows day.
Lopez-Pineda, in his thirties, was linked to the criminal material through his Facebook and Gmail accounts, according to the investigation conducted by the Louisiana Department of Justice. This probe was set in motion by alerts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which received tips about illicit images being shared by Lopez-Pineda on Facebook Messenger, starting in December of 2020. He was inevitably snared over a year later in October 2022, with law enforcement managing to quickly and virtually trace the source of the illegal imagery.
As a result of these collaborative efforts, state investigators homed in on an apartment nestled in the 2200 block of Giuffrias Avenue in Metairie. There, they discovered a disturbing trove of 136 illegal images on the defendant’s cell phone, with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office providing critical backing in the investigation. The concrete evidence harvested from the internet service provider made certain that this individual would soon face the consequences of his reprehensible actions.
Lopez-Pineda tried to deflect blame during his trial, proposing that it could have been one of his roommates who was truly responsible for the content found. However, the jury hardly hesitated, deliberating for only about an hour on Tuesday evening before reaching a verdict. They were not swayed by the defendant’s attempt to, so to say, pass the buck onto an unnamed cohabitant.
Awaiting sentencing, Lopez-Pineda's fate now lies in the hands of Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach of the 24th Judicial District Court, with the proceedings scheduled for May 1, as per official court documents.
