Fort Collins Police's Cyber Crimes Unit, acting on a tip from a counterpart in Missouri, made a significant arrest last week in what had developed into a multi-state kidnapping and sexual abuse case. According to the City of Fort Collins, a juvenile girl who had been missing since December 2024 from Missouri was found in a residence on the 800 block of Warren Landing last Friday.
The police executed a search warrant at the address with the aid of their SWAT team and discovered Maximilian Bondrescu, a registered sex offender, who initially denied the presence of a missing girl inside the home. Upon searching the property, officers located the missing juvenile and took Bondrescu into custody. He faces a slew of charges, including second-degree kidnapping of a child, sexual assault on a child by a pattern of abuse, and false imprisonment, among others.
Bondrescu's arrest has highlighted not only the alleged crimes but also his method of concealment. The victim was reportedly forced to work for Bondrescu's snow removal business, "FoCo Sno GO," to help mask her identity. Investigators are reaching out to anyone who may have used his company to contact law enforcement as they continue to build their case.
"The importance of the work done by the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crime Unit, and similar units across the nation play a vital role in helping to keep our children safe," Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky of the Fort Collins Police said, as per City of Fort Collins, emphasizing the critical role these specialized teams play in such investigations. While the specifics of the case are limited due to protections for the juvenile involved, Fort Collins Police urge any past customers of FoCo Sno GO to step forward as they push forward with the legal process.
In the meantime, Bondrescu remains jailed at the Larimer County Jail as the district attorney’s office prepares for the trial. The charges against him are currently allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
