Fort Worth's teenagers have a summer option that's about more than just having fun in the sun. The city's Park & Recreation Department is rolling out the Rec Leader In Training (RLIT) program again this year, aiming to equip young people with leadership skills and practical experience. Young people aged 13-17 will spend their break from school engaging in an eight-week curriculum designed to teach them the skills of being a camp counselor, while also participating in character-building activities and learning about responsibility.

According to the City of Fort Worth, for a fee of $75, a nominal amount considering the breadth of the program, each teen will not only engage in the regular summer program activities but they will also shadow seasoned counselors, help run daily operations and dive headfirst into learning experiences that are set to shape them into future leaders, it's an all-encompassing experience that promises growth and a lot of fun. The program, running from June 9 to August 1 with an initial orientation in early June, is a full-day engagement, where teens will be kept busy from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Young people and their guardians interested in the RLIT Program should apply quickly. For more details or to register, visit the official Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department's website or the direct link provided above to the City News article.
