Several Franklinites in blue have traded pavement for trails, returning from a soul-resetting trek through Virginia's Grayson Highlands, thanks to the non-profit group Frontline Freedom. The Franklin Police Department's very own Lieutenant Clayton Cates, Lieutenant Chris Hollingsworth, Sergeant Sam Greer, Detective Dillon Lipinski, Officer Matt Lamarr, and Officer Ryan Frazier joined a band of first responders on a mission for mental health and physical vigor.
On this multi-day wilderness retreat, the officers took on more than just the physical demands of backpacking; they absorbed the therapeutic offerings of nature as a counterbalance to their high-stress roles, keeping the peace back home. According to a recent update from the City of Franklin, Cates, the man in charge of training at the department, stressed that such “Programs like these aren’t just refreshing—they’re essential,” capturing the essence of the experience and recognizing the mental fortitude required of law enforcement.
Life on the frontline is challenging, with officers facing safety, order, and occasional chaos daily. To support them, Frontline Freedom organizes retreats focused on wellness techniques designed to help manage the unique stresses of the job.
Back in Franklin, the police department stays committed to the holistic well-being of its force, endorsing such proactive experiences. “Our officers face high-stress situations daily. Supporting mental and physical wellness is a priority for this department. We’re proud to have officers who take the initiative to invest in themselves and grateful to organizations like Frontline Freedom who make these experiences possible,” Lieutenant Cates underscored in a statement obtained by the City of Franklin.
