For those traveling through Moloka‘i Airport, there's a new convenience to enjoy as of April 17 — free Wi-Fi service courtesy of Hawaiian Telcom. Available throughout the terminal, the service connects to a 1G Fiber network, ensuring that passengers can easily stream video and download content without a hitch. According to a statement obtained by the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT), this move is part of HDOT’s HI Connect pilot project, which has been improving broadband infrastructure in various parts of Hawai‘i.
Senator Lynn DeCoite, emphasizing the critical role of air travel for Moloka‘i's residents to reach essential services, welcomed the addition of Wi-Fi. "Access to free internet while waiting for flights can help make these essential trips more efficient and comfortable," she told the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation. The installation recognizes the airport as more than just a transit point but a place where connectivity can ease the strain of travel's necessity.
Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen pointed out that larger, busier airports received Wi-Fi back in 2018. "Offering this free service at Moloka‘i Airport is part of our efforts to make meaningful, cost-effective improvements at our facilities for local travelers," he said in a recent interview. With internet access steadily becoming a staple in airports worldwide, Moloka‘i's latest upgrade seems a natural step in modernizing travel amenities for the local populace.
