The city of Frisco was met with a jarring event when a bullet struck Hosp Elementary School last month, causing no injuries but raising concerns among residents. According to a press release issued by the Frisco Police Department, the investigation concluded that on March 27, a local woman accidentally discharged her firearm, resulting in the bullet hitting the school's exterior.
During her search of the second floor of her home, the woman, believing an intruder was inside, stumbled and involuntarily fired the handgun. In an official statement, the Frisco Police detailed, "The single shot fired from the gun penetrated an exterior wall and then struck the school." Detectives found no evidence suggesting intent or that the school was deliberately targeted, and as a result, in consultation with the Denton County District Attorney’s Office, no charges will be laid against the resident.
Earlier, at 9:28 a.m. on the day of the incident, a Frisco Police Officer responded to the scene at the school, where they determined that a classroom window had been shattered. Fragments of a bullet were discovered, though no one was harmed. As a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of students and staff, Hosp Elementary dismissed students early.
The partnership between the Frisco Independent School District and the Frisco Police Department proved critical in handling the situation swiftly. The coordinated efforts led to a smooth dismissal of students, and since the incident, students have been deemed safe to return to the campus. The Frisco Police praised the collaboration with the school and the patience of parents, saying, "The department would also like to express its appreciation to the school's students and parents for their patience as detectives worked to confirm key components of the investigation."
