A 17-year-old student athlete from Frisco Centennial High School, identified as Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with murder following a track meet incident that resulted in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School. According to a statement obtained by CBS Austin, the altercation occurred on Wednesday morning and is purportedly over a seating dispute.
The situation escalated quickly, as reported by FOX News, leading Anthony to claim he was merely "protecting myself" after Metcalf "put his hands on" him. The confession came as Anthony was giving instructions to keep his hands up in the air by a school resource officer, the first to reach the scene. This same officer later overheard Anthony stating, "I'm not alleged. I did it," while being taken into custody.
According to Fox News report, an arrest report provides further details of the incident, highlighting Anthony's immediate reaction post-altercation, where he asked the officers if Metcalf was "going to be okay" and inquired whether his actions could be construed as "self-defense." Anthony is now being held at a Collin County jail with bail set at $1 million.
The tragedy has left a profound impact on the community and the victim's family, especially pronounced in the words of Hunter Metcalf, Austin's twin brother. Recounting the horrific event on "The Will Cain Show," Hunter described the moment he witnessed his brother gravely wounded: "I whipped my head around, and then all of a sudden I see him running down the bleachers just grabbing his chest… I put my hand on there, tried to make [the bleeding] stop, and I grabbed his head and I looked in his eyes. I just saw his soul leave, and it took my soul, too," Hunter said.
