Governor Brian P. Kemp signed two key pieces of legislation on Monday to support Georgia’s business and workforce development. The signing ceremonies took place at the Georgia State Capitol and the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. The new laws focus on improving educational pathways for high-demand careers and strengthening the workforce to support the state's economic growth, as per FOX5 Atlanta.
Earlier this year, Governor Kemp spoke at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s annual Eggs and Issues legislative preview. He announced his intent to push forward the Top State for Talent Act to strengthen Georgia’s position as a hub for skilled workers. "We plan to accomplish this by aligning our education pathways to access high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage careers," Kemp said, emphasizing the connection between the state's education system and the needs of key industries, as reported by the Office of the Governor.
Governor Kemp's initiatives include aligning job training programs with high-demand careers to improve Georgia's competitiveness. His policies have led to increased enrollment at the University System of Georgia, supported by the Georgia MATCH program and improvements to the Technical College System. He has also committed $530 million to transportation development to support the state's logistics industry. "Last year, with the help of the General Assembly, we provided $250 million dollars to double our grant investment in local roads without doubling the cost for local governments," he said, according to the Office of the Governor.
Governor Kemp has made economic growth and addressing legal barriers key priorities for Georgia. He said, "Tort reform will be my top legislative priority for this upcoming session," aiming to improve legal proceedings. Kemp is also focusing on education, workforce development, and infrastructure to strengthen Georgia's position as a top state for business and talent development, as stated by the Office of the Governor.
