The Georgia Senate has adopted Senate Resolution 237, a measure aimed at addressing teacher shortages in K-12 education. Sponsored by Sen. Billy Hickman (R–Statesboro), the resolution calls for state education departments, including the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, to develop strategies to strengthen the teacher workforce.
According to the Georgia State Senate Press Office release, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth, Sen. Hickman said, "Our state has long faced challenges in addressing teacher shortages in both early childhood and K-12 education." The resolution encourages collaboration among various stakeholders to improve the teaching profession.
The resolution focuses on areas like mentorship programs, professional development, and the working environment for educators, with the aim of improving teacher satisfaction and student outcomes. The report, due by December 1, will outline recommendations from the involved agencies and departments and will be submitted to the Governor and the Senate for further action.
