Glendale Community College (GCC) recently observed its 60th anniversary, marking six decades since its establishment in 1965. Originally launched as a smaller institution, GCC has expanded to offer a broad selection of academic and vocational programs serving a diverse student population. The anniversary event, held last Tuesday, included attendance from individuals connected to the college over the years and acknowledged the institution's operational history in the community.
Under the leadership of Dr. Tiffany Hernandez, the current President of Glendale Community College, the institution continues to focus on supporting student achievement and promoting an inclusive learning environment. "The impact that this institution has had on countless lives over the past 60 years is immeasurable," Dr. Hernandez emphasized in a statement obtained by the City of Glendale. She highlighted the wide range of individuals impacted by GCC’s efforts, including first-generation college students, adult learners seeking new opportunities, and the faculty and staff who support their educational journeys.
According to city officials, GCC's impact reaches beyond individual achievements to broader municipal contributions. Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers acknowledged the college’s involvement in educational initiatives and its participation in community development efforts. In an interview with the City of Glendale, he said, “I am very thankful for their partnerships and programs we have been able to develop with Glendale Community College. They are a huge advocate for my Stand Up to Veterans project, which is crucial to honor those who serve our great nation.”
Over the past 60 years, Glendale Community College has served more than 500,000 students and currently provides 41 associate degree programs and 61 certificate options, in addition to various non-degree offerings. These academic opportunities are available in traditional classroom settings, online formats, and hybrid models, increasing accessibility for a wide range of learners. As noted by Mayor Weiers and Dr. Hernandez, the college’s role has extended beyond academics, contributing to both the city’s development and community wellbeing.
