Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay has confirmed the upcoming closure of two key regional facilities, an Oakland retail store, and a San Francisco training and career center, resulting in the layoff of 90 employees, as reported to state officials. The nonprofit organization, known for its thrift stores and employment services, filed a WARN document indicating that the closures are scheduled for June 7 and are expected to be permanent.

Specifically, the Oakland Goodwill store at 1301 30th Avenue will shut its doors, affecting 72 workers across various roles. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, the closure of the career center at 750 Post Street will result in 18 job losses, as per KRON4. In what appears to be a restructuring move, Tim O'Neal, CEO of Goodwill San Francisco Bay, told SFGATE that the organization is "actively working to secure and open new future locations that will reflect larger, more efficient operational spaces, and an enhanced shopping and donating experience for our community."

The recent announcement comes after considerable organizational changes, including a merger with a Phoenix-based Goodwill chapter in 2024 and a complete turnover of the executive team. The San Francisco Bay Goodwill is now operating under the umbrella of the Arizona chapter, which is believed to provide a stronger foundation for future expansion plans, especially in suburban areas that O'Neal had previously identified as opportunities for growth.
