As part of efforts to support local transportation planning and infrastructure development in Brazos County, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Karl Mooney, Ed.D., as presiding officer of the Brazos County Regional Mobility Authority. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. Mooney has previously served in public roles, including as Mayor and City Councilman of College Station. His term with the Authority is scheduled to run through February 1, 2027.
The position Mooney is set to assume within the Authority carries significant responsibilities. The Brazos County Regional Mobility Authority, established as a political subdivision, is tasked with coordinating local transportation initiatives with state resources to implement infrastructure projects. These projects are intended to directly impact the region's transportation network. Mooney’s appointment was announced yesterday, according to a release from the Governor’s Office.
Mooney brings prior experience and familiarity with local needs to the role, having served in government positions and as an academic at Texas A&M University. As director of the general studies program and transition academic programs advising, he has been involved in areas that may intersect with transportation infrastructure and its impact on educational institutions and surrounding communities. His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Trenton State College, a Master of Arts in Urban Education from Jersey City State College, and a Doctor of Education in Reading from Lehigh University. These credentials align with his involvement in city planning and zoning matters.
Mooney’s experience includes roles in education, public service, and community organizations. He has served as founder’s group chairman of the YMCA of the Brazos Valley and as nominating chair of the Sam Houston Council Scouting America. He is also a member of the choir at Christ Church. With his appointment by Governor Abbott, Mooney will take on responsibilities related to transportation planning and infrastructure development in Brazos County.
